Yes Fusion ticks all the right boxes so we know this is a winner. Fusion has taken over 10 years to develop, test and refine, and the hard work has truly paid off. Fusion’s results are nothing less than spectacular, providing furniture painters a best-in-class paint that features: an environmentally conscious formulation, superior durability, easy one-step application and significantly improved strength. Delivering an exceptional matte finish, this 100% acrylic paint requires minimal prep work! It is available in store or on line from La Deuxième Chance.
Application: Follow the directions carefully and Fusion can be applied to most previously painted or coated surfaces without priming or significant prep work.
No top coat?
Fusion is formulated with a built-in top coat, the 100% acrylic resin. You do not need to use a top coat for water permanency!
Tip: On a microscopic level, flat or matte finishes have tiny ridges and valleys when the paint dries. Therefore, finger prints and marking can occur. The marks can easily be removed using a damp cloth, however, if you are concerned about dust marks, apply a coat of FUSION Beeswax Finish or FUSION Tough Coat.
Coverage: Excellent coverage! Fusion paint offers incredible coverage of 7m² per 500 ml. In most cases one coat is all you need. Its coverage is outstanding!
Durability: Once Fusion has cured, it yields a highly durable and a washable finish. If you choose, you can of course achieve a beautiful lustre by adding a Beeswax Finish on top, or the Tough Coat. Fusion is dry to the touch after 2 hours and can accept a re-coat after 4 hours. Cure time with all acrylic paints is 21 days, however, painted surfaces can be used gently after 24 to 48 hours of drying time.
Sheen: Fusion is offered in a gorgeous matt finish. This means an almost zero reflectance value that allows you to achieve a beautiful smooth finish.
Distress: Absolutely! This paint is extremely easy to work with, though we recommend distressing soon after the paint has dried. It is very durable, so achieving the same result is tad more work after it has cured! It is recommended to apply a top coat when you distress because you will break open the surface and a top coat will be necessary to prevent water damage and continued distressing through extensive wear and tear.
What exactly is 100% acrylic paint?
Fusion™ is made up of 100% Acrylic resin and nothing less! This results in one consistent and cohesive surface across your piece. So what exactly does that mean? With Fusion™ you will have a perfectly sound surface that is not porous, meaning that you do not have to apply a top coat unless you want a special effect. Other paints on the market such as latex, or anything less than 100% acrylic are using low quality and highly toxic vinyl and latex as they are inexpensive filers. Fusion products are made up of only the highest quality materials resulting in a very low VOC high quality paint. Not only are they low VOC, they are also free from many other chemicals currently in other lines of paints such as ammonia and formaldehyde. Fusion™ contains none of these.
How long does it take to dry?
Drying and curing are two different things. Dry time usually refers to the touch or tackiness. Fusion should dry to the touch within an hour or two. High heat temperatures and high humidity play a factor making it sometimes slightly longer to dry.
Cure time is approximately 21 days, once again depending on the weather. What does this mean? You can still use your piece gently, however the paint will be at it’s strongest to resist any marks the longer it has to cure. Once the Fusion line has cured, the durability is unrivaled. Fusion paint is also water-resistant.Please note all paints and waxes have a cure time.
How should I prep my piece?
No Prep? No problem—not always true!
A paint will only perform as well as the surface that it’s going on allows. No matter what product you use, if you apply your paint to an unstable surface, the paint will flake, peel, and eventually fail on you. Many surfaces have been previously finished with lacquers or high gloss preparations that were chemically constructed to resist anything adhering to it. So, a little prep goes a long way. If your surface is glossy, take 5 minutes and lightly sand it down to remove some of that gloss, allow the paint some tooth to really soak in and bind with the surface. Ultra Grip makes it possible to paint over laminate, Ikea cabinets, you name it! You can now use Fusion paint on virtually any surface with excellent results!
How to prep?
We’re not saying take out your power sander and book half the day off to sand your entire piece down. Simply take a 220 grit sandpaper and give your piece a gentle rub and de-gloss your surface.
How much paint do I need for my projects?
Fusion™ has an excellent coverage, which means it is sold in 500ml and tester sizes. 500ml covers approximately 7m².
Most projects only require a half litre, however having to buy a litre leaves you with wasted paint and money. Fusion™ are offering excellent quality and coverage, in sizes you will use, resulting in less environmental waste.
Can I distress or get a layered look?
Yes you can get a distressed or layered look!
Because of Fusion™’s supreme adhesion, distressing can be tough once the paint is cured. If you would like to do some distressing, we recommend doing it soon after the paint dries or by using a wax block resist.
Press the wax block along the edges where you would like to see the distressed effect between layers of paint. Anything that is applied on top of the waxed areas will resist the paint. You will notice this resist once you give your piece a light sanding at the end of your application of all layers of paint. So many times when distressing it is easy to sand right through all the layers this prevents this from happening! The paint underneath the wax will remain in place and any paint applied on top of the wax will come off effortlessly, allowing for the perfect distressed look.
Do I have to finish my piece with wax?
No, you don’t have to finish your piece, because Fusion™ was formulated with a built-in top coat. Once Fusion™ has cured, it yields a highly durable and a washable finish, with no need for a top coat. If you choose, you can of course achieve a beautiful luster by adding a wax on top. We have a whole array of beautiful decorative and faux finishing products to choose from, to give your piece that little extra.
When do I use Fusion™ Tough Coat?
Fusion™ Tough Coat was developed for those high traffic surfaces such as table tops, seating, kitchen cabinets, doors and floors. Tough Coat is non-yellowing and provides extra durability against general wear and tear, water damage and food stains.
Can you use Fusion for exterior surfaces?
Yes! Fusion is a high quality 100% Acrylic resin and can withstand the elements on the sun, rain, snow, you name it! Please pay close attention to proper prep as your substrate will be very important to the adhesion, durability and longevity of Fusion.
Is it UV-resistant?
The pigments used in Fusion Paint are of the highest quality and will outperform competitors for many years longer in sunlight.
