Annie Sloan French Linen Chalk Paint is a very popular colour. It is a cool neutral khaki grey inspired by bleached deep neutral of old pieces of French and Italian furniture. It works beautifully with golds and a range of rich and bright colours such as Emile and Emperor’s Silk.
We use this colour with great effect using it on top of old white or reversing the colour way.

Anniçe Sloan Florence chalk paint is a colour that was originally called Persian Green but has recently been relaunched as Florence. You know as soon as you open the tin and dip your brush in that this colour is something really special.
It is inspired by the colours of the copper green mineral and semi-precious stone, malachite, from the same family of stones as azurite and turquoise. In the 17th and 18th century it was used as a colour made with verdigris but as it is a very fugitive colour turning black with time so we are not aware of how it was used on woodwork in many houses. It is a classical colour which can be found in classic Italian furniture.
When I opened a tin my first thought was Oh Yes! What a wonderful colour. Now all I need to something to paint it on!! And I wasn’t content till I found something. It goes really well when used over the top of Barcelona Orange. The two colours compliment each other really well. Try using it with something gold. Wax or gold leaf – the effect is stunning.

Annie Sloan English Yellow Chalk Paint is a clean yellow which was particularly popular in English 18th Century decoration and is inspired by hand painted Chinese wallpaper and the development of Chrome Yellow pigment. It was the first non earthy yellow and a first would be very expensive. In the 1950s this yellow became popular as a strong primrose. It can be mixed with Antibes Green to make lime green. It is a must for any chalk painter’s palette.

Annie Sloan Emporer’s Silk is a bright pure red similar to the red silk lining of a jacket. We love it and it is great to put in an interior of a cupboard or a drawer.Even better when it has dark wax added to it. It is named after the red of China.
It is also possible to add old white to this to create a wonderful rose-pink.
A wonderful colour to use as a base coat colour but even more impressive on its own.The picture above is a piece we did a while ago which had dark wax applied directly to it. (rules are breaking!!). If you are in the Deux Sevres why not pop in and see us. Please note that we are very close to the Vienne and Charente borders so you have no excuse.

Annie Sloan Emile is a warm soft aubergine colour with pink red undertones giving a rich complexity that makes beautiful sophisticated lilac tones when Old White is added. It is a colour that adds a contemporary facet to the palette being a colour used by the Charleston artists as well as a colour used by Robert Adam in the 18th century after visiting Pompeii.
So there you have it.That’s what Annie says.We say “It’s lovely!” and why not.We have made use of it with all sorts of different pieces. From signs to furniture.Goes well with Paloma and Henrietta.Don’t just take my word for it, try it.

Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint is one of our personal favourite colours. It is a greenish soft blue reminiscent of Rococo French and Swedish interiors. It looks wonderful and fresh with Old White or even better over Cream. You could even try using it over Chateau Grey and Aubusson Blue.To make a colour seen in the best old English country houses add 4 parts of Old White to 1 part of Duck Egg.

Annie Sloan Cream chalk paint is a soft, pale, warm and creamy yellow which is the colour of clotted cream.
Personally I prefer the look of cream under Paris Grey. Or of course you can use it on its own.
This cabinet above had a wash of Burgundy applied as a first coat.
Here it is under Paris Grey.

Annie Sloan country grey chalk paint is a putty colour using greenish raw umber. It is actually a really useful colour. It is terrific on its own or combined with old white. If distressing try it as a top coat with Cream or Scandinavian Pink underneath. It is generally seen as a more rustic colour which is particularly good for a country look rather than using château grey
Another way to use it is to mix it into another colour such as Château Grey or Duck Egg Blue to make them seem paler and knocked back.

Annie Sloan Coco Chalk Paint.
Move over Horlicks here is the true king ! Welcome Coco.A really rich and sumptuous colour. It really is a warm grayed brown, a colour traditionally found on old French woodwork. It works well with Duck Egg Blue or even Louis Blue.It really is a very under rated colour. We need to see more of it ! Try using it as an alternative to French Linen.

Annie Sloan Chateau Grey is a very much maligned colour. Sometimes it is referred to as a “sludgy “green. It is a very popular colouir in France and is very common in many houses. It is in Fact an elegant grey green, which is the colour found on French woodwork.
Try putting a coat of Primer red underneath it. Looks fantastic!
