Miss Mustard Seed Grain Sack is one of our favourite colours, named for the colour of antique European grain sacks. It’s a chameleon colour, meaning it looks different depending on what is around it. Sometimes it looks white, sometimes Gray and sometimes more beige.
Grain Sack is a great colour to mix in order to lighten without making the colour too pastel. It pairs well with the other greys in the line – Shutter Gray and Trophy.

If you are undecided which colour to choose have a look at this video. Marion talks about and shows the eighteen colours available in her Milk Paint range.
Miss Mustard Seed Curio is a rich, walnut brown that is perfect to use as a glaze or stain. It’s also a great colour to use for mixing with other colours. It was named after the rich wood on a curio Marian inherited from her aunt.
Pair Curio with a lightened version of Apron Strings for a classic brown and pink pairing.
Boxwood is a rich, dark grassy green. Depending on the finish used on the piece, it can look bright and bold or subtle – more like a muted olive. Boxwood takes its name from the preserved boxwood wreaths and topiaries Marian (aka Miss Mustard Seed) uses in her interiors.

For those who think that milk paint should only be used to achieve a “primitive look,” this paint has been given a facelift with new colour options and fresh ideas on using it to fit your style. These are just a few of the ways milk paint can be used:
1. Use it on porous surfaces to create a finish that doesn’t chip or flake with time
2. Increase the ratio of water to paint to create a coloured stain or wash
3. Add the bonding agent when painting non-porous surfaces to increase adhesion
Miss Mustard Seed Artissimo is a navy/midnight blue which takes its name from the blue and white fabric Marian used in her master suite. Depending on the finish, it can look like a brighter royal blue or almost black. Artissimo can be paired with Boxwood and the other blues in the Miss Mustard Seed line.
Apron Strings is a raspberry/coral colour named by one of Marian’s blog readers. She remembered her grandmother wearing a coral apron and Marian loved the story she shared and the feelings evoked by the name.
When Apron Stings is mixed with Ironstone, beautiful shades of coral can be found.

Today we decided to update our kitchen units. As you can see from the photo some of them were actually orange!
The carcase was painted in Eulalies Sky and the drawers were lightened by mixing Miss Mustard Seed Linen. Each of the three drawers were lightened in turn by adding half a measure per drawer to the original mixture.
The top of the units were treated with Miss Mustard Seed White Wax to give a “limed oak” effect. As they are going to get quite a bit of use the units were given several coats of paint and likewise with the wax.
We also decided to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ on the island in the centre of the room.
We decided to use pastel colours and this meant using a custom mix. The bottom drawer is a mix of yellow and old white. The middle drawer is a mix using a discontinued colour called Celadon green and Old White. The top drawer is a mix of Emperor’s Silk and Old White.
So goodbye orange and hello multi coloured kitchen – light bright and different!
