Annie Sloan Emperor’s Silk Chalk Paint

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – Emperor’s Silk

Annie Sloan Emporer’s Silk is a bright pure red similar to the red silk lining of a jacket. We love it and it is great to put in an interior of a cupboard or a drawer.Even better when it has dark wax added to it. It is named after the red of China.

It is also possible to add old white to this to create a wonderful rose-pink.
A wonderful colour to use as a base coat colour but even more impressive on its own.The picture above is a piece we did a while ago which had dark wax applied directly to it. (rules are breaking!!). If you are in the Deux Sevres why not pop in and see us. Please note that we are very close to the Vienne and Charente borders so you have no excuse.

Annie Sloan Emile Chalk Paint

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – Emile

Annie Sloan Emile is a warm soft aubergine colour with pink red undertones giving a rich complexity that makes beautiful sophisticated lilac tones when Old White is added. It is a colour that adds a contemporary facet to the palette being a colour used by the Charleston artists as well as a colour used by Robert Adam in the 18th century after visiting Pompeii.
So there you have it.That’s what Annie says.We say “It’s lovely!” and why not.We have made use of it with all sorts of different pieces. From signs to furniture.Goes well with Paloma and Henrietta.Don’t just take my word for it, try it.

Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – Duck Egg Blue

Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint is one of our personal favourite colours. It is a greenish soft blue reminiscent of Rococo French and Swedish interiors. It looks wonderful and fresh with Old White or even better over Cream. You could even try using it over Chateau Grey and Aubusson Blue.To make a colour seen in the best old English country houses add 4 parts of Old White to 1 part of Duck Egg.

Annie Sloan Cream chalk paint is a soft, pale, warm and creamy yellow which is the colour of clotted cream.
Personally I prefer the look of cream under Paris Grey. Or of course you can use it on its own.
This cabinet above had a wash of Burgundy applied as a first coat.
Here it is under Paris Grey.

Annie Sloan Country Grey Chalk Paint

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – Country Grey

Annie Sloan country grey chalk paint is a putty colour using greenish raw umber. It is actually a really useful colour. It is terrific on its own or combined with old white. If distressing try it as a top coat with Cream or Scandinavian Pink underneath. It is generally seen as a more rustic colour which is particularly good for a country look rather than using château grey
Another way to use it is to mix it into another colour such as Château Grey or Duck Egg Blue to make them seem paler and knocked back.

Move over Horlicks here is the true king ! Welcome Coco.A really rich and sumptuous colour. It really is a warm grayed brown, a colour traditionally found on old French woodwork. It works well with Duck Egg Blue or even Louis Blue.It really is a very under rated colour. We need to see more of it ! Try using it as an alternative to French Linen.

Annie Sloan Chateau Grey is a very much maligned colour. Sometimes it is referred to as a “sludgy “green. It is a very popular colouir in France and is very common in many houses. It is in Fact an elegant grey green, which is the colour found on French woodwork.
Try putting a coat of Primer red underneath it. Looks fantastic!

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – not just for furniture!

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is an incredibly versatile paint. Most people know it can be used on furniture but do you know it can be used on walls, ceilings and floors too? Yes, in deed it can most certainly be used on floors. If you want to complete the look it is so easy to do. It is ideal for wooden floors but can be used to great effect on concrete ones too.

concrete floor – before

The photo above is what we started out with. A rather boring concrete floor very much in need of covering up.
The first stage was to apply a coat of watered down Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™. We chose to add water as the concrete soaks up some of the paint. In this particular case it was a 50:50 mix. The colour chosen was Paris Grey.

The next stage was to divide the floor up to look like tiles. Here we used Annie Sloan Graphite. You can either do this free hand or use a piece of wood to act as a guide line.

The last and final stage is to seal the paint using Annie Sloan Lacquer. The Lacquer dries to a soft matt finish and is ideal to protect the paint. We applied this using a mini roller and a brush for the edges.Handy tip – make sure you shake the bottle well before using as all the good stuff sinks to the bottom. We left it over night to dry.The end result is a floor. For those that have visited our shop you will have seen the painted floor there. For those that haven’t here it is..

Annie Sloan Burgundy

Annie Sloan Burgundy is a wonderful rich, deep, and warm red. The colour of dark cherries. Most of the Annie Sloan colour range are 18th and 20th century inspired but this one comes from the 19th century when the discovery of Alizarin Crimson made this colour possible for the first time to a large number of people. It is now one of the classic colours used in particular for neo-classical painted furniture. Previously called Burgundian Red, Burgundy is just right to use with Old Ochre.
The picture above is proof of this.

Annie Sloan Barcelona Orange Chalk Paint

Annie Sloan Barcelona Orange Chalk Paint.
One of the perks of running a paint shop is that you normally get to try new colours before anyone else. When our deliveries arrive we are like big kids, trying to grab the new tins and try it first.
This is a colour that I was itching to try.Only trouble was I had nothing to try it on. And to date I have not found a suitable piece to paint with it. Completely undeterred by the lack of suitable furniture (an unusual event in itself) I found an off cut of wood and used that instead. Annie Sloan recommends using it with Florence ( aka Persian green) and so I thought it was worth trying. Here is the result :

“Think of a large ripe orange and this is the colour of Barcelona Orange. Apply dark wax and the colour becomes a luscious burnt orange. Its warmth and vivacity is a great accompaniment to neutral tones such as the greeny sludge colour, Chateau Grey or to the cool silveriness of Paris Grey as well as Aubusson Blue, its deep complementary partner. It is perfect for many interiors but particularly with the 1960s vintage look.”

I did a little more experimenting and found that if you had equal parts of Old White to the Orange – it tones the colour down somewhat.Haven’t tried it with dark wax yet but it is only a matter of time!
